Salsa shoot

Shot Serena Cuevas today, a professional salsa dancer, who recently was in a Gatorade commercial with Serena Williams.

Soccer

Shot these in studio today for a project I’m working on.

Magazine portrait shoot

Did a shoot of an architect for Builders Magazine up in Irvine yesterday. Set up a makeshift studio in the conference room where they guy works. The client (magazine editor) was featuring three architects in three different cities, shot by three different photographers. In order to have some consistency, she asked all of us to shoot our subjects against white seamless and keep them black and white. Beyond that we could do what we want. Some of these are ambient light, one is with a home depot work light illuminating subject, and the square image below was made with a Hasselblad 110mm f2 Planar lens – the fastest lens made for medium format. I’ve been obsessed with this lens for a couple of months, and just got my hands on it. I’m going to tell you why I’ve been obsessed with the special lens in another post. The other images were made with a Hasselblad H3d with 39 meg back. Long story.

Behind the scenes fashion shoot

I’ve been an editing fool, and inundated with work. Thank god. Was in LA yesterday shooting behind the scenes images of a fashion photoshoot with an Olympic athlete…. I counted 12 Profoto 7a packs on the set. Jeez.

Chargers NFL football

Shot the San Diego Chargers yesterday. They lost here in San Diego to the Baltimore Ravens by a few points….

Even more music – but who??

Shot another group Saturday. A legend in the industry, Grammy award winner, big in the 70s. Who is it?

More music coverage…

Shot the 2009 Alma Awards in LA last night, which airs on ABC tonight. The Almas are kind of like the Academy Awards for latinos. There were no Kanye-like moments. I shot the entire show from a fixed location in the back of the arena, mainly using my 400mm 2.8 lens.  Highlight of the show was a singer named pitbull.

Who are they?

Shot this music concert last Saturday. Like many concerts, was only allowed to shoot the first three songs. Wondering how many out there know who these guys are. Big in late 70s and 80s.

$150 space camera

This is kind of cool, saw it over at sportsshooter. Wired Magazine is writing about a couple MIT students who used a styrofome beer cooler to make a space camera for less than $150. Read about it here.

Turns out though it’s been done before. Here you can read about a 21 year-old who launched a couple teddy bears and camera to 100,000 feet (20 miles) for a two hour flight.

ESPN the Magazine photo shoot

This actually goes back about two months, and was published in the magazine about a month ago, but the video from this shoot just went online at ESPN.com. You can see video of the shoot that matches these photos here under “Longshoreman Sweat Spot.” It was a story I shot about unique exercises NFLers Drew Brees, Kellen Winslow, Justin Peele and Shaun Philips do to stay fit. Here’s just a few images:

I use the recording device on my camera to record names for cutlines. If it's a large group though, I'll sometimes write down names along with descriptions of the people pictured. For insurance I photograph that paper, otherwise I'd lose it after 10 minutes...

I use the recording device on my camera to record names for cutlines. If it's a large group, I'll sometimes hand write the names. Problem there though is, I'll end up losing the paper within 10 minutes, so I often photograph the thing, for insurance purposes.
